The Washer & Dryer that was not!

Last week, one of the pre-Black Friday ads had the LG Steam Washer and Dryer at too good of a price to pass up.  As this had been one of the items that we had been looking at getting on Black Friday, we decided to just order them early.  Confirmation call the day before Thanksgiving, allowed us plenty of time to move the old washer and dryer out of the laundry room.  The frugality in DB & I came out when we decided to build our own platform... why spend an extra $500 when we can do it ourselves?

As our new nifty graphite colored do it all washer and dryer was to be delivered between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm on Black Friday, we ensured that we were back from our shopping experience in time for the delivery.  8:00 am the telephone rings... here comes the washer and dryer!

WAIT... what was that, there is no washer and dryer?  It did not ship from LG?  Oh the humanity...
Currently we have a beautiful platform just waiting for the new washer and dryer, along with an ever growing pile of laundry.

Shop Vac

Doodle and I awoke at 4:00 am for Black Friday to ensure we were at Home Depot for the shop vac that was on sale for $29.00.  This was Doodle's first shopping experience on Black Friday, as we drove by the Target, Kohls, and Best Buy with full parking lots, we knew the insanity had begun.  I tried explaining the divide and conquer strategy but lack of coffee and sleep still filling our eyes, he just said, "I do not think it will be that crowded".

As the two trucks in front of us, turned into the Home Depot parking lot, I cried "hurry, we must beat them, they cannot get the shop vac"!  I emerged from the truck at a full sprint, looking back, Doodle had not even emerged yet.  Entering Home Depot, I screamed "I need a shop vac" and there coming down the aisle was our neighbor with the shop vacs in question.

(Turns out we are not the only crazy people to get up at 4:00 am for a shop vac)  Luckily Home Depot had plenty of the shop vacs still left and we scooped one up.  SUCCESS!

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful day with friends and family.  Doodle and I enjoyed our day free of cooking by heading over to a friends house for fried turkey and ham.  YUM!

I'll be posting pictures from our adventure this morning and shopping on Black Friday a bit later.  Just too tired from getting up this morning at 4:00 am.

Small Harmless Looking Lizard

Did you know lizards bite? And have teeth?  How do I know this, you ask yourself... yesterday I was bit by a lizard!  Why you ask was I holding a lizard?  Let me set the stage: we had gone to check on a house, there was a small, harmless, looking lizard in the basement.  (Not so harmless after all)
Since lizards are one of God's creatures and I believe all creatures great and small should have a fighting chance to live, the lizard must be moved outside to bask in the warmth of the sun.  Have you ever tried to herd a lizard?  Herding a lizard is about as easy as herding cats!  He zigged and I zagged, he ran over my shoe and I managed not to scream in terror.
About this time, DB walks in and asks why I just do not pick him up by the tail?  Come on people, we all know that their tails fall off and that is the last thing I wanted to be holding.  Instead, I had the grand idea to just scoop him up.  After all, he is a small, harmless looking lizard!  The lizard stops, I reach down, scoop him up, thinking this will be quick and easy, out the door with him and he bites me!  He bit down on my palm, I scream and fling the small, harmless looking lizard 10 feet across the room.   The lizard hits the wall across the room and is obviously dazed and confused.
I exclaim, I WAS BIT BY A LIZARD, at which time DB says, I did not know they bite.  Brilliant aren't we!
Examining my hand, there is a spot where the skin had been scraped, probably from me flinging the small, harmless looking lizard across the room.  At this time, I determine is much more prudent to herd the lizard toward the door.  After 5 minutes both the lizard and I are outside, exhausted, and mentally drained.  Before we left I checked to ensure the small, harmless looking lizard was still alive and thankfully he was.
If there is a moral to this story, I have no idea what it is, except that small, harmless looking lizards can be quite menacing.

Operation Cats

The ASPCA is raising money through Operations Cats.  This fantastic project is aimed at helping the ASPCA continue to fund their animal welfare services in 2011, and now you can help them too!

You can take a look at my profile page here:
https://operationcats.com/profile/view/ButtSpot

Help my virtual cat ButtSpot get to the top of the leaderboard by donating or buying a gift.  Any contribution that you can make is incredibly valuable, helping the ASPCA guide cats into a better life.

The cause
Every year, millions of cats and dogs of all ages and breeds are euthanized or suffer as strays. These numbers are the result of unplanned litters that could be prevented by spaying or neutering.

That's right, only $60.00.  YIPPEE!!!!!

Nothingness

School is winding down, only 4 weeks to go, my last final will be the first week in December.  The days are getting colder and shorter, it is dark by 6:00 p.m.  The holidays will be upon us before we realize it.  This year Doodle and I are staying home, for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We are just too tired to venture out this year, school has been hard on us both, we have gone from doing everything together, do only having a few hours a week together.  I know it will be worth it when I graduate, but school has taken a toll.  We are looking forward to just being together all day doing nothing or doing something.

Thank you to everyone that has been there and supported both Doodle and I this semester, we truly appreciate it.

Veterans Day

The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held each year on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery . The ceremony commences precisely at 11:00 a.m. with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by veterans’ organizations and remarks from dignitaries. The ceremony is intended to honor and thank all who served in the United States Armed Forces.
Take a moment today, to stop and say thank you to all who have served and who are serving.

Aging Gratefully

This morning on the way to work, NPR interviewed Nora Ephron, she has a new book out "I Remember Nothing: And Other Reflections".  What she said at the end of the interview really struck me this morning.  It doesn't matter how old you are, these are words to inspire us all to live life to the fullest.

"Despite all the I'm-getting-old jokes in Ephron's new book, the last chapter, called "The O Word," takes on a more elegiac and wistful tone as Ephron considers the serious implications of aging.
"You do get to a certain point in life where you have to realistically, I think, understand that the days are getting shorter, and you can't put things off thinking you'll get to them someday," she says. "If you really want to do them, you better do them. There are simply too many people getting sick, and sooner or later you will. So I'm very much a believer in knowing what it is that you love doing so you can do a great deal of it."
For Ephron, there was a moment that helped bring that realization vividly home. She was with friends, playing a round of "What would your last meal be?"
(Her pick, by the way: a Nate & Al's hot dog.)
"But [my friend] Judy was dying of throat cancer, and she said, 'I can't even have my last meal.' And that's what you have to know is, if you're serious about it, have it now," Ephron says. "Have it tonight, have it all the time, so that when you're lying on your deathbed you're not thinking, 'Oh I should have had more Nate & Al's hot dogs.'"

Daylight Savings Time

Did you remember to set your clocks back last night or this morning as in our case?  Why are you asking do we still observe Daylight Savings Time?  I have no idea.  I believe our government should put daylight savings to a vote... I bet it would fail!

Election Day

Get out there and vote.  It matters not whom you vote for, only that you vote.
