Martin Luther King Jr. Day

12 facts about Martin Luther King Jr. 
  1. Born January 15, 1929. 
  2. He was born Michael and later changed his name to Martin. 
  3. He graduated high school at the age of fifteen.
  4. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, graduating with a B.A.
  5. He received his graduate and doctoral degree from Boston University.
  6. In 1954, he became the pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He was 25 years old!
  7. In 1957, he was elected President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
  8. In 1964, he was the youngest man, at age 35, to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
  9. Between 1957 and 1968, he traveled over 6 million miles, spoke over 2,500 times and wrote 5 books.
  10. Time Magazine named him "Man of the Year" in 1963.
  11. He is best known for his "I Have a Dream" address he gave on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial front of 250,000 people. 
  12. On April 4, 1968, while standing outside his hotel room in Memphis, Tennessee, he was assassinated.
