Words of Wisdom

"I would not suggest going to jail while wearing a pink robe"! ~ Doodle

Why you may ask is Doodle indicating that going to jail while wearing nothing but a pink robe is a bad idea...well, someone was arrested in Alaska wearing a pink robe.  We were watching Alaskan State Troopers and it was all caught on tape.  They have that part of the episode for your viewing enjoyment here on tv.com.

Not So Smart

The other day while studying, Mo aka. Study Kitty decided that the chips I was eating would be be good for her to eat as well.  Mo was a complete and utter aggravation until I finished the chips and placed the empty bag on the desk, then she decided to help herself to the crumbs.
If Mom was eating the chips so should I.

Mmmm... so good, let me get all the crumbs.

Mo proceeded in putting her head all the way into the bag... it was stuck, I was laughing and tried to get a couple of good pictures before she backed off the desk or suffocated.  Really, she is fine!

G-Ma

Yesterday was the five year anniversary of Grandma's passing.  I always called her G-Ma and still talk to her.  G-Ma was a great woman, she truly lived by the words if you have nothing good to say, just say nothing.  I never heard G-Ma say a negative thing about anyone.  I still endeavor to live my life in honor of her!  I miss you Grams, you are forever in my heart.  I love you.

To Be Six Again

This was sent to me by a friend, I laughed out loud... enjoy!

A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, watching his wife, who was looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off he asked what she'd like to have for her birthday.

'I'd like to be six again', she replied, still looking in the mirror.

On the morning of her birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Lucky Charms, and then took her to Six Flags theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Roller Coaster, everything there was.

Five hours later they staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down. He then took her to a McDonald's where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake.

Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite candy, M&M's. What a fabulous adventure!

Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted.

He leaned over his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, 'Well Dear, what was it like being six again?'
Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed.

'I meant my dress size, you retard!!!!'

The moral of the story: Even when a man is listening, he is gonna get it wrong.

Running on Empty

Nothing like waiting until the last minute to post our group project last night.  It was due by 11:59 pm, we turned it in at 11:40 pm with nineteen minutes to spare.

I am struggling to keep my eyes open today after the "Princess" keep me up alerting us to the fact somewhere within a 300 hundred mile radius, there was a storm.  Who needs the weather channel, just get a dog!

Driveway Moment

It has been a long time since NPR had a story that made me not want to get out of the car, today, was my moment.  NPR has been doing a series about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injuries related to American troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  I remembered this story, it was heart breaking to know that we are placing our soldiers in danger and then not diagnosing nor treating their injuries correctly upon their return.  Now, to have an update on one of the soldiers, who was suffering so baldly he wanted to die.  I spent twenty minutes sitting in my car, listening, it was the best twenty minutes I had today.

"A few months ago, NPR and ProPublica published an investigation about five soldiers who suffered traumatic brain injuries from the same explosion in Iraq. The report also explored the cognitive and emotional problems they've been having ever since. Twelve days later, one of the soldiers piled an armload of guns and semi-automatic weapons into his pickup and led police on a high-speed chase across North Dakota".

You can access the story here 'Suicide by Cop' Leads Solider on Chase of His LifePlease everyone, take the time to listen to the story and to support our troops.

List Days 8 and 9

These questions are similar, in an effort to move this list challenge along, here goes two questions *gasp* amazing!

8. The best things that happened in the last year
9. The best days of your life

8. The best things that happened in the last year.
Mom came for several visits, I love when she comes out, it means a week of cooking, shopping, laughter and love.
I was accepted and started graduate school.  After 20 years out of school, I was quite proud of myself (now to just finish... the shiny newness of school has worn off)!
Doodle and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary.
After 2.5 years of owing Austin and many, many lessons, he participated in his first horse show.

9. The best days of your life
That so sounds like a song or a soap opera.  Did you ever watch soap operas?  I did, Santa Barbara, every episode, from start to finish.  When I was in France, they were showing reruns of Santa Barbara, I loved that show!

Okay, back to the questions, everyday day I am alive is the best day.  There are days I remember more, getting engaged, getting married, landing in France, returning home, mom graduating from college, they are all best days.

Weekend Recap

Java is hosting a meet me on Monday link up:

1.  What jewelry do you wear 24/7?

The only jewelry I never take off is my wedding ring.  They mean the world to me, in addition to the one that DB gave me, I have my grandma's band and my aunt's band.  In total, I wear four rings that all match perfectly on my ring finger.

2.  Do you twirl your spaghetti or cut it?
Cut, twirling just never seems to work for me, I end up with sauce everywhere!

3.  How many siblings do you have?
One younger brother

4.  Were you named after anyone?
Not that I am aware of, that is a good question, I will have to find out but pretty sure the answer is no.

5.  Coke or Pepsi?
Coke, I grew up on the west coast.  Although as a child we were not allowed to drink sodas, they were not kept in the house, so even today, I do not really drink them.

Five Question Friday

A day late and a dollar short... about how I would sum up my life right now!

1. Have you ever testified in court? For what?
Nope, was on a jury once and NEVER want that experience again.

2. Do you still have your wedding dress?
Yes, it is at my mother-in-laws, at least I think it is... Mom do you still have my dress?

3. Is there a special place you like to go when you're happy, sad, stressed, etc.?
The front porch or anywhere why I can look at the sky, clouds and stars.

4. If you have kids, do they sleep with you? If you don't have kids...will you let your kids sleep with you when/if you have them?
DB and I do not have children; however, we did let our furry ones sleep with us until Doodle could not take it any longer.  I guess that answers the question!

5. Do you watch late night TV?
Not really, with school, when I am done for the night, I am DONE.  Although, I have never been a night owl!

List Day 7

Hi everyone, I am still tired, just busy trying to keep up with school, work, home, Doodle...
I thought this was a good list day to finish on.

7. Good things that happened this week

I like this question, not because so many good things happened but that it makes you look for the positive and not the negative.  I am a firm believer that you should always look at a glass as half full (although, I admit, sometimes I fail at this!)
  • One midterm grade came back - 89 (so close but so far to an A)!
  • Doodle and I ate dinner twice together
  • My annual review at work turned out GREAT (if only they would lift the ban on raises)!
  • Mo's vet visit while quite costly went well and she was given a clean bill of health
  • The weather is perfect, highs in the upper 70's
  • Spring is here and our trees are starting to bloom

What good things happened in your world this week?  I want to know, share your thoughts.
Happy Friday everyone!

List Day 6

I am just cruising away on this list challenge!  Here it goes...

6. Your favorite things – what brings you joy?

Wow, another tough question.

DB, furry kids, family, and friends all bring me joy.

Reading, laughter, tears, and holding hands brings me joy.

Watching the clouds, listening to the birds, and smelling fresh cut grass brings me joy.

Joy can be found everywhere, you just have to take the time to look for it.

Kindergarten

What a restorative function sleep is.  I feel so much better, I am not as tired.  I am still tired of school but not like earlier this week.  I did not go to bed that much earlier than normal, in fact, I started watching a documentary on Link TV about a Chinese Boarding school called Kindergarten.  Apparently in China elites send their children to a weekly boarding school starting on Monday and picking them up on Fridays.  Children as young as 2 and 3 are sent to this school.  It was fascinating to watch these small children make friends and enemies with their classmates.  If you have an opportunity, watch the documentary, it provides an interesting insight into China.

Five Friday Questions

1. Do you know what your REAL hair color is? Yep, I do not color my hair, I like to call the gray natural highlights... and no, there is no picture of my gray streak courtesy of school!

2. Do you plan ahead for summer, or fly by the seat of your pants? We usually plan something, although summer is DB's busiest time for work so vacations wait until the fall.

3. What is your favorite meal to cook? I am not sure I have a favorite meal, I love baking, especially cakes.  DB likes chili and tortellini soup, so I enjoy cooking those items for him.

4. Do you get offended by not receiving thank yous? Yes!  How rude!  I always make a point to send thank you cards for everything.  I think it makes people feel good to get old fashioned mail.

5. How did you meet your best friend? My best friend is my husband, we met on a blind date.

Blogging

I have not had the strength to blog lately.  Nothing has changed in my life from yesterday or even the day before.  I have not felt like just complaining out there to the world, when I know that others are going through things I cannot comprehend.  I do hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend and perhaps my spirits will be lifted this weekend and I will be back to telling you what a boring life I lead!

Update

Happy Mardi Gras!

This weekend, I actually accomplished some of what was on the list... let us review:
  • Water change in fish tank - CHECK
  • Clean house - after 8 weeks of no cleaning, it has gotten just a bit gross - CHECK
  • Find a house keeper - from above statement, I obviously need HELP - NO CHECK
  • Visit crazy ass barn friend who moved... over a month ago and I still have not seen her new house... I promise, I am coming over - NO CHECK (disclaimer... I tried, crazy friend is out of town!  At this rate, it may be another 8 weeks before I have a chance to get over to her place)
  • Visit the horse that I own... I think he has forgotten me - NO CHECK (it was raining, cold, and disgusting)
  • Weed, work in the yard, plan the garden - PARTIAL CHECK
The weekend was cold, wet and rainy, it was miserable being outside.  I thought that spring was here, in fact took some pictures of the flowers and trees in bloom but have not downloaded them.

Have a great day everyone!

Midterms

Whew... what a week!  I officially turned in my last midterm this morning and Spring Break starts tomorrow.  Since I have a week away from school, I plan to accomplish all of the following in the next two days:
  • Water change in fish tank
  • Clean house - after 8 weeks of no cleaning, it has gotten just a bit gross
  • Find a house keeper - from above statement, I obviously need HELP
  • Visit crazy ass barn friend who moved... over a month ago and I still have not seen her new house... I promise, I am coming over
  • Visit the horse that I own... I think he has forgotten me
  • Weed, work in the yard, plan the garden

Why you ask is all of the above being accomplished in the next two days, when I have 7 days of school freedom... two research papers are calling my name.

Happy Friday everyone!
