Welcome to Hell

The final semester of classes officially begins tomorrow and after reviewing the syllabus', it will be two months of hell.  I have papers due weekly and not just simple one pagers... I wonder how they expect us to function and still make it through the course work.  I suppose the upside to is only one class as a true final exam... the others have, you guessed it PAPERS.

I am really beginning to wonder why I started this adventure in the first place.  Can someone please answer me, someone?

I Am Back

I got home yesterday and while visiting Brasil was amazing, I am so happy to be home.  I have started going through the pictures and my little camera did not hold up well, so I am going to run the pictures through Photo Shop in the hopes I can get clearer images.  I think I will break the trip into a couple of posts and put in as many photos as I can.

Flying into Sao Paulo
Both Sao Paulo and Rio are huge... think about it, 18 million people live in the city.  The cities never seem to end, it is absolutely amazing and crowed and dirty.  The cost of housing there has increased and put owning an apartment out of the reach of many locals.  Not only that, everything is so expensive!  You can make payments on socks.  It is actually less expensive for Brazilians to fly to Miami, shop and fly back than purchase clothes in there own country.

That being said, I wonder just how much money I spent!

Hello from Brasil!  Sao Paulo was okay, the days were long and the area we were staying in was not convenient for going out.  However, we did eat at some great restaurants and visited some interesting places.

We are in Rio now and the hotel is horrible but we are a block from the beach so at least I am getting my beach fix.  I am taking as many pictures as possible and will post once I get home.

Life Imitating Disney

This was forwarded to me today and I had to share.  I love Disney and thought whoever put this together did a great job.

The hard work paid off, I achieved A's in my three classes.  I am so very luckily that Doodle believes in me and this adventure that we are on.  Now to just keep it up for another two semesters!  Happy Friday everyone.

The waiting on grades continues... they have to be posted tomorrow by 5:00 pm and I have a feeling the professors enjoy making us stress.  I wonder if it is because they had nasty mean professors during their schooling so they are passing it down?

In the meantime, I am trying to get everything ready to leave for Brazil.  The packing, cleaning, shopping, list making.  I discovered I do not own enough undergarments for two weeks, (TMI I know!) so I must invest in new prior to the trip.

Off to get the rest of the house cleaned before I depart and then see what else needs to be purchased.  Fun, Fun!

5 Days

I cannot believe that I leave for Brazil in five days... it has been years since I attended a study abroad program.  I had someone ask my about grad school and I have been vague as the school decided it would be a grand idea to post our profiles and in the concept of maintaining privacy, I cannot say what the degree is in or where I attend.

Today I bought an electricity converter kit and the store had all these cool travel items, like bags that fold into tiny squares that you can use for shopping.  Oh, did I say shopping... I mean studying and carrying books.

While I am excited, I am already missing Doodle.  We do not get to spend much time together due to school and now I have two weeks away from him.  When I get back from Brazil, summer school starts June 1, so there is no down time at all.  I am going to try and post from Brazil but I do not own a laptop so if the hotels do not have free computers, I will be down for a couple of weeks.

Happy Monday everyone!

My Mom

Happy Mother's Day to the woman who taught me to love and laugh with abandon.  I love you mom!

FINISHED!  Finals are officially over, I took the last test and it was a bitch!  The professor pulled quotes from the books and removed a word, which we were expected to fill in.  Goodness, I read the book but did not memorize it.  Ah well, nothing I can do now but wait for grades.

To recap the last 16 weeks of my life:

  • 10 books read totaling 3477 pages
  • several articles printed and read = numerous dead trees
  • 2 research papers written
  • 8 module briefs written
  • 42 discussion points written
  • stress level up
  • gray hairs increased

Again, I have to thank Doodle for ensuring that I ate on a regular schedule and for supporting me though this semester.  2 semesters to go, I will graduate in December!

Chicken Burritos

Last night we tried the Chicken Burrito recipe found on the Philly Santa Fe Cooking Creme package.  It was good but not a keeper.  It did not have enough flavor or spice for our tastes.  Doodle did say it was relatively easy to make, it might be good for people with families.

I will definitely try a few more recipes using the cooking creme as it just seems to make life a bit easier.  Happy Friday everyone!

How is it possible that two dogs have more dental work done in a year than both DB and I combined?

The poops spent the day at the vet yesterday getting their teeth cleaned.  DB had to pick them up for me, as I was taking a final last night.
GB: "How are the poops?"
DB: " They both are on pain killers and antibiotics."
GB: "Why"
DB: "Ling lost 5 teeth and Shen lost 3 teeth"
GB: "Do I want to know how much this cost?  I am guessing $800"
DB: "Try again"
GB: "$1000"
DB: "Nope... $1600"
GB: "Holy Shit, no, really, crap, do they have any teeth left?"
DB: "Not too many!"

I went down to get the poops and they were PITIFUL.  Their mouths are swollen, Ling cannot even close hers.  Both Shen and Ling climbed in my lap and just looked at me.  I feel terrible for them.  They got a small amount of food and feel asleep upstairs with DB.

This morning they still feel bad, I am hoping that spending the day at home will help them start to feel better.  I did ask that Ling not try to chew any additional walls, wire or kennel material.  Apparently, she had several broken teeth from her escape attempts.  Shen lost his teeth due to the fact he was born with a cleft palate, he does not really chew his food and that has caused rot in his mouth.  Between the two of them, they do not have a full head of teeth...

Cinco de Mayo

In honor of Cinco de Mayo DB and I are trying a new recipe, something simple so I can continue studying for the last final.

Let me vent for a moment...

Who in their right mind schedules a final for a Friday night?

Yes, tomorrow night, FRIDAY, I have my last final for this semester.

Why, why do this to us?  Have we not suffered enough reading three books for your class?

Okay, I feel better.  Okay, that is a lie but I will get on with it, as there is nothing I can do but take the test.

DB and I are trying one of those new Philadelphia Cream Cheese mixes.  We are going to be making the chicken enchilada recipe on the package.  Be prepared for a review tomorrow.  I hope that everyone has a wonderful Cinco de Mayo!

Defeated and Downtrodden

In the past two weeks, Doodle and I have purchased two new "squirrel resistant" bird feeders.

We looked...
We debated...
We tested...
We talked to others fighting the ever present creatures

And finally, we choose this
The first week, the squirrels were confused, running scared and then they figured out they could hang on it and chew the plastic.  Seeds fall out, comrades on the ground get to eat.

So, back to the store,
We looked...
We debated...
We tested...
We talked to others fighting the ever present creatures

We decided this feeder would foil the creatures, they were too big to fit though the holes!

Yesterday, after only 24 hours, this is what the feeder looked like...

Score 2 for the squirrels

Score 0 for the humans

May Day

Happy May... I just realized it is now the second of May... Happy May anyway!

Welcome to another exciting List Day Post.

14. The high points for your autobiography

You read them here every day... what a dull life I lead!
15. People who love you
Well, mom has to love me, she birthed me!  Doodle does not have to love me, but does despite all my quirks and lumps.

16. The cutest things your kids ever said

Skipping... if any of the kids start talking, we will have a really high point for the autobiography!

Fleeting Glance

Pleated Woodpecker

Did I see one?

I thought I did, but now I am not sure.

If I did, it has not been back.

It sure looked like the picture.

I want so badly to see one.

I might have imagined it.
