Done, Done, Done

Last final has been turned in!  I am officially finished with classes!  In six weeks time, I read 5 books = 2100 pages, wrote 9 papers = thousands of words and added even more gray streaks in my hair.
Monday I start the internship and have one paper to write and defend before December.  My life has semi-returned and I am so grateful to be nearly finished with this adventure.

Classes officially ended yesterday with a test.  I have finals this week and then I am officially done with classes on Friday, July 29.  Two of my finals are actually papers... I need to get off the internet and get to writing!

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Wednesday Words of Wisdom

Fable of the Porcupine

It was the coldest winter ever.  Many animals died because of the cold.  The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together to keep warm.  This way they covered and protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions.  After awhile, they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen.  So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth.  Wisely, they decided to go back to being together.  They learned to live with the little wounds caused by the close relationship with their companions in order to receive the warmth that came from the others.  This way they were able to survive.

Moral of the story: The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others and can admire the other person's good qualities.

The real moral of the story......Learn to live with the pricks in your life.

Waterproofing the Deck

This past weekend, Doodle worked on getting the waterproofing on the deck so that we can put the deck boards down and then get the concrete poured for the new patio.  It is slowly coming along, as I am still trudging through school, I am not much help.  The directions were a bit cryptic so it took all day Saturday to figure out the process; however, once Doodle figured the process, he cruised along!
We know it is working, we had about an hour's rain tonight.
So much for the picture of the rain on the waterproofing...
But I can show you the MUD...

Image from Phone

and then, she {snapped}

We have been contemplating getting me a new cellular phone, mine rattles as there are loose parts within from being dropped one too many times and the phone is randomly hanging up on people now.  I am exceeding hard on electronics, my phone has been dropped into water buckets at the barn, pushed off the desk by the cats, played with by dogs... okay maybe not that last one.

I do not have a fancy smart phone, just a regular phone with a camera but there are a couple of pictures that I have taken that I wanted to save.  I have been sending them to DB... so he can send them back to me.  Here is one that was taken at a local winery just after it had rained.

Happy Birthday Mom

Happy Birthday to the woman that birthed me.
To the woman that has made me the person I am today,
To the woman that laughs, cries, and smiles with me,
To the woman that I strive daily to live up to,
To the woman that gives me strength when I am down and courage when I am afraid,
To the woman that loves me unconditionally, even when I do stupid things,
To the woman that tells me when I am doing stupid things,
To the woman that I look up,
To the woman that inspires me,
To the woman I love more than anything on this earth,
To my Mom.

List Day 16 & 17

16. The cutest things your kids ever said
Since we do not have kids and the furry ones have not started talking yet.  Well not that I will admit to anyway... I thought I would move on.

17. Everything you would do if money were no object

If money were no object, I would definitely travel around the world, visiting every country and seeing as much as there is out in the world.  I could easily move to a new place every couple of years, I love getting to see and visit new countries.

I would also donate money to the causes that I believe in.  There are always those who are less fortunate.  Bringing a smile to someone else also makes me smile and that is the greatest gift of all.

19 days

I am still totally unmotivated for school.  All I do is look at the calendar and think I have three weeks left of classes.  Of course, I still have my thesis but THREE WEEKS OF CLASSES.  I have so much to finish, I must read and read and read.

Sharing Photos

and then, she {snapped}

Photography is a passion that I have neither the time nor the money for.  I love taking pictures of everything and vow that once school is finished, I am going to take another class and practice taking more pictures.  I stumbled across a blog where you can share a photo with others that enjoy taking them as well.  Here is my first submission... Please let me know your honest thoughts, what can I do better.

The Final Mission

What a long three days but what an experience!  We traveled 1200 miles in three days to witness history, the end of the Space Shuttle Program and the final mission.  Words cannot describe the feeling of watching the shuttle launch.  Tears were shed, hugs were given, the moment was bittersweet, knowing that another shuttle would not be launched.  I am proud to have be a part of something so very special.

Commemorative Tickets were handed out.

The parking pass for the shuttle launch instructed us to arrive no later than 4:00 am!  After three hours of sleep DB and I arrived at the Kennedy Space Center at 2:30 am.  The hotel told us to leave no later than 2:00 am to ensure we were not stuck in traffic... we were not.

After spending hours at the Space Center, we were bused to the causeway for the shuttle launch.  We set up our chairs and promptly fell asleep.  Three hours of sleep had caught up with us.  Luckily we awoke in plenty of time to listen to the NASA radio and hope that the shuttle would liftoff on time.

Cleared for takeoff - counting down
  Ignition
 We have liftoff!

 I am no longer breathing!

 Heading into the clouds

What a glorious sight, anyone that believes we never put a human into space has not seen a shuttle launch, heard the roar of the engines and felt the cars shake.  What a amazing experience and to think we were part of history.

Weather

The weather in Florida does not look promising for the anticipated shuttle launch on Friday.  All I can say, is please Mother Nature, send the rain away!

Deck Update

DB has been hard at work on our new and expanded deck.  It is really coming along, all four posts in, joists hung, and concrete poured.  Since we are going to create a patio under the deck, we are waiting on the drainage system before we can put the deck boards on.  We vacillated about whether or not to use wood or the manufactured decking.  After lots of research, DB decided that wood decking would be cost efficient and less prone to lawsuits regarding splitting.

Saturday, I helped DB for a couple of hours, it was so hot... 95 degrees with humidity at 90% as well.  I do not know how he managed all day, I was exhausted after just a couple of hours.

Utterly Unmotivated

I have lost all motivation for school.  I just want to be finished with classes and not spend every waking minute reading, writing, and test taking.  How do I stay motivated for the next month? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?

List Day #15

15. People who love you

This questions seems quite obvious...

Doodle loves me
Mom loves me
Brother love me
The furry ones love me

Am I missing something with this question or am I that tired from school?
