Larry, Mo & Curly

I finally broke down and bought additional fish for the tank.  I have been wanting more fish but honestly do not want to spend too much money as I am still new to having the tank.  I ended up with three Green Chromis... "Larry, Mo & Curly".  They seem happy enough and survived the water change this weekend.

I also got several new snails, the cutest of which are Bumble Bee Snails and look like small black and yellow bumble bees.

Finally, I purchased an Emerald Crab... "Crabby".  I am not sure if you can see him in the picture below.  Crabby is toward the bottom right corner sitting on the rock.  He is suppose to eat this green bubble algae that I have growing in the tank.  Crabby is actually fun to watch, as long as he does not know you are watching.

Deck Railing Completed

It felt like we worked from sun up to sun down yesterday, I know we did not but it was so hot to be outside working.  We finished the back section of the railing, we have to wait for the staircase to arrive before completing the other short side as we not are 100% sure how the railing attaches.  We are ordering a black spiral staircase for the deck.  Anything larger would have taken up most the backyard which is small to begin with.

Doodle hung my bird feeder, most of the birds had given up on coming around, since we were working on the deck, hopefully they will find us again.  I think the railing looks great, maybe some caps on the posts?  I hope everyone had a great weekend!

In Which We Learn I Cannot Bowl

Crazy Horse Friend
This week was my crazy horse friend, Elby's birthday.  When asked what she wanted to do for her birthday... she came up with bowling.  We met another friend, Christy, at the bowling alley for fun and games.

After watching Elby bowl, I know why she wanted to go bowling, she was good!  Here is the score during the first game.  Notice how I am bringing up the rear in this adventure.  That seems to be par for the course!

I can tell you I barely broke 50 that first game but came roaring back with a 120 the second game.
It was fun to spend a couple of hours with friends I have neglected for the past year while in school.  Happy Birthday Elby, I hope this year brings you nothing but happiness.

Updates

This has been a busy week, I am going to try and post updates throughout the day, when we take breaks from working on the deck.  Highlights include a friends birthday, where we went bowling... you will see from the scores, that I am not a bowler!  New additions to the tank and one loss occurred this week.  The pumpkins have sprouted, six plants have taken root, I am not sure we will have pumpkins by fall, at the rate they are growing, perhaps I should have planted earlier.

Tonight we are attending an Iftar dinner with the place that I am interning at.  Doodle and I are very excited to attend our first dinner and learn more about their beliefs and practices.  I am hoping they will allow pictures.

It is still hotter than Hades here and we need rain desperately.  Our grass is burning up and I am having to water twice just to keep the flowers going.  We had hoped that Hurricane Irene would have turned inland and brought rain to Georgia but it was not to be.

Signing off, Doodle is ready to start on the deck...

Progress

Progress on the deck seems to have increase this weekend.  Doodle finished putting down the deck boards, we added the cedar skirting to the frame and finished one side of the railing before the rains forced us indoors.  I was in such a hurry to get pictures, only one turned out.

I also managed to snag a picture of the incoming storm clouds.  To me it looks like the cloud just separated from the top part.  Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Confession

I love the NBC show Love in the Wild.

There I admit it!

Generally dating shows are not my cup of tea, but this one, with the adventures in Costa Rica, I have watched each week. I think I like this show because of the adventures, in fact, the show has solidified our next vacation choice to Costa Rica.

They are casting for next season... I cannot wait to see where the adventures will lead.

Disappointed

I have been at the internship for two weeks now and disappointed is all I can say.  I had such high hopes that I would learn so much, meet new people, and make some great connections.  Instead, I do data entry, copy and paste spreadsheets, and answer telephones.  No one talks to me... I suppose I should clarify that and say, I do not talk to them either.  After all that, I get to fight traffic for up to two hours, not getting home until 7:30 pm.  I am just as tired as I was when I had to come straight home and study.  I suppose the good news, I only have 14 weeks to go and then I am finished with the internship.  I have hopes it will improve... one must always hope!

Changing topics, Doodle asked that we make tomatoes and okra.  It actually turned out pretty good for not really having a recipe.  We used the okra out of the garden, some chicken sausage and canned tomatoes from Doodles mom. (YUM)  A couple of the okra had gotten way too big and were chewy, but I am learning when is the optimal time to pick them.  I still think they are gross to touch, all snotty and slimy... I digress.

After adding the tomatoes, we let it simmer until it thickened.

We made rice to go along with it, I was very pleased with how it turned out and so easy!

Finally, the deck is still a work in progress, the deck boards are on, minus two, I will get some pictures this weekend and hope to go shopping for patio furniture as well.

Falling Skies

Doodle and I do not usually agree on television shows.  However, we do have a handful of shows that we both enjoy.  For the past couple of months we have been hooked on TNTs Falling Skies.  It is absolutely the best show on television right now, starring Noah Wyle, who is just a wonderful actor and Moon Bloodgood.  Would you believe this show was being advertised while I was in Brazil, a special mini series for the summer.  I came home knowing that I would have to watch this show and it was well worth our time.

The premise of the show: the world has been attacked by aliens and the few survivors have banned together for survival and to fight back.  I thought that the series was only for the summer but they are in production for another season to start next summer.  Of course by then we will have forgotten everything that had happened... they will have to show the first season again.

If you did not get a chance to watch it, I highly recommend it, good acting, plausible story line (which is what really gets you), and enough action even for the guys.

The Deck

If I feel like we have been working on the deck for months, I can only imagine what Doodle must feel.  Progress is slow as the pictures reveal.
Under the deck - gutter, lights, fan placement.  Ready for the ceiling!  The orange stuff is the waterproofing, which is basically thick sheets of plastic that form gutters between each of the joists.
If only the concrete dude would call us back...

Much Needed Computer Break

I have been lax about blogging!  I took a much needed computer break (at least from the one at the house) for the past week.  It was such joy to come home and not have to sit at the computer and work at school.  Doodle and I watched TV, I read a book THAT I WANTED TO READ, I slept, and we cooked, actual dinners, together!  It has been wonderful, but alias, school beckons once again and I must begin to research my final paper.

Doodle is still working on the deck, it is slow going when doing everything yourself and when we have had afternoon pop-up thundershowers.  We are grateful for the rain as the grass was beginning to turn a touch brown, but we officially have a mud pit where he has been working on the deck.  I honestly think he will be finished in another couple of weeks, the waterproofing and gutter system is in place and the deck boards were delivered today.

Two tomato plants have given up and died... just too hot for them.  I finally got around to planting the pumpkin seeds, lets hope they come up for fall.  I have been out to visit Austin (horse I own) and thankfully, he did not forget me.  I wonder if it is due to all the carrots he is getting now?  I have ridden a couple of times and a year off was way too long... my legs are jello and I look like I just started riding again but I came home filthy and smiling from ear to ear.
