Internship Finale

My internship is officially over!  While there were moments I hated it, there were also moments of great joy and laughter.  I have walked away with new friends that I would have never had the chance to meet had I not been a part of the organization. Yesterday, they were nice enough to bring in lunch for everyone and surprised me with two beautiful gifts.  The first a Turkish coffee set and a lesson on how to make the perfect coffee.  I have a feeling it is going to take me quite awhile to make it the "Turkish Way".

The second gift was a picture that I fell in love with my first week at the center.  It is apparently a painting done on glass by a rather famous Turkish artist.  I have no idea the meaning behind the figure, that started a lively debt yesterday when I asked, so I need to do some research.

I was humbled by their generosity and plan to stay in touch with everyone and help with their upcoming events.

Perfect Weekend

Sunrise Thanksgiving Morning

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday filled with food, fun, and family.  For those of you that braved black Friday, I hope it was a fruitful adventure.  Doodle and I spent the weekend in Panama City Beach, Florida, where we enjoyed having our ass in the sand and our toes in the water.

It was a perfect weekend, mid 70's, sunny with a continuous ocean breeze.  The slider to the balcony was open the entire time we were in Florida.  We left early this morning to beat the rain and we did.  I did not take too many pictures, we really did not do anything other than relax but here are a few of the beautiful sunrises and sunsets we witnessed.

Holiday Music

When is it appropriate to turn on holiday music?  The day after Halloween?  The week of Thanksgiving?  The day after Thanksgiving?  While Doodle and I were shopping on Sunday, the store had holiday music playing.  It is quite difficult to be in the holiday spirit and sing along with the "weather outside is frightful", when it is 75 degrees and sunny.

In my opinion, holidays come in a particular order, nothing holiday related should be out or played until the day after Thanksgiving.  It absolutely drives me crazy that Thanksgiving is totally forgotten between Halloween and Christmas.  Soon retailers will have holiday decorations up from July 4th through December.  I think they have forgotten the meaning of Christmas!

That being said, holiday music will commence on Friday, November 25 in our house.

Disney Institute of Leadership

"Courage is the main quality of leadership, in my opinion, no matter where it is exercised. Usually it implies some risk."
~ Walt Disney

I was lucky enough to attend a lecture this week sponsored by my employer featuring the Disney Institute.  The lecture was about "Inspiring Creativity".  A co-worker and I love all things Disney, so we signed up to attend the event.  It was interesting to see how Disney solves problems by bringing together people from across the departments.  The biggest thing I took away from the lecture was how Disney defines creativity.  It is not about thinking outside the box but rather knowing your box and then expanding it. This ensures that the organizational identity remains consistent and it known by everyone.

Check out the link to the Disney Institute and see what they are all about, it was a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

Wednesday Words of Wisdom

"Life is best lived by being bold and daring.  People tend to grow fearful when they taste failure, face a daunting challenge or fall ill. Yet that is precisely the time to become even bolder. Those who are victors at heart are the greatest of all champions."

3 days

The downhill slide to completion of the internship has commenced.

THREE DAYS!!!!!

THREE DAYS, as resulted in a better attitude, I am laughing and smiling more due to the fact I only have THREE DAYS left.

Of course, I cannot let on that is reason behind my giddiness. Instead, I am quite sure they think me strange as I keep telling them I am just happy it is cooler outside.

Memories of Fall

In this part of the world, nearly all of the leaves have fallen from the trees. I finally downloaded the pictures I took of a tree I saw a couple of weeks ago and I am so glad I did.  I think it has to be one of the most beautiful, perfect trees I have ever seen.  I love how when the sun hit the tree in a different way it would change the coloring.  These pictures are taken immediately after each other and the coloring is so different.  I drove by a week later and the leaves had all fallen, perfect timing on my part.  Enjoy!

Besides Doodle, this is why I live in the south.  We never had colors like where I grew up!

30 Item Lady

The insanity associated with the holidays has officially begun!  We are 42 days from Christmas; the traffic has doubled, people have lost all notion of common sense and humor, and goodwill toward men is a thing of Christmas past.  Just as an example, I ran to Target today for a few items... four to be exact.  There was one 10 item or less lane open.  The lady who was a couple of people ahead of me, easily had 30 or more items.

THIRTY

I calmly decided the lane not designated 10 or less  was moving more quickly and I was correct.  The gentleman in the 10 items or less lane behind the THIRTY item lady came into my lane.  I looked at him and said:

"Guess she could not read"

The gentleman said "I am trying really hard not to get mad, it is Sunday after all"

Why does common sense fly out the window at the holidays?  Okay, better question, where has common sense gone?  Is everyone so self centered that they just believe they can do whatever they want and it either not affect others or they do not care?

Why, why would you 30 item lady get in the 10 items or less lane? Do you believe your time is more important than mine or the kind gentleman that was trying not to get angry?

30 item lady, do everyone a favor and get in the right lane next time.  A small amount of common sense will take you a long way in this life.

Veterans Day

As I was driving to work today listening to NPR, it struck me that we only take one day out of the entire year to honor those men and women who have served in our military.  This does not seem right to me.  It does not matter if you agree with the current conflicts or war in general, what matters is supporting these men and women who choose to be in the military, sacrificing home and family life in the process.

So while it is important to celebrate today, take the time to celebrate these citizens every day.  Take the time to attend a funeral for one of the fallen or participate in a joyous homecoming.  Doing so may reinforce what makes this country great and perhaps make you appreciate life more.

Finding a Pillow

Does anyone else struggle with finding the right pillow?  I have bought soft, hard, back sleeper, side sleeper, feather, foam, expensive, cheap, and still have not found one that I am comfortable with!  Our house is full of pillows that have been slept on a night and then retired to another bedroom or to stuff one of the many shams around the house.  I just cannot return a pillow that I have slept on, as long as I have not spent a small fortune on it.  There have been a couple that I have returned for a refund.  The "experts"... how do you become an expert in pillows?  The experts say you should replace your pillow every 12 to 18 months.  My feather pillow is older than dirt and the one that Doodle sleeps on is at least in middle age. Why are pillows like everything else, what feels good is not good for you?

Ruts

While much has been happening here in our neck of the woods, I have not felt much like sitting at the computer.  I stare at the computer all day at work and have lost interest in the contraption at home.  That is not to say things have been dull, quite the contrary... just nothing that I found blog worthy has been happening.  What I can say, we are in a rut!

At Rut I Say!

We have been hard at work on the house that the person we evicted destroyed.  Hard at work on my final paper.  Truth be told that is a stretch.  Hard at work in my mind.  I have taken many photos of the beautiful trees around the area and have not downloaded them to work with.  We finally did decide on a couple of photos from our photo shoot, I have those to work on as well.  Here are the ones the photographer worked one.  I so need to learn Photoshop!

This one is my favorite, we have ordered it and another one.

Doodle and I are just tired and in need of a long weekend.  We are both looking forward to Turkey Day!
