Wednesday Words of Wisdom

Today is an ephemeral ghost...

A strange amazing day that comes only once every four years. For the rest of the time it does not "exist."

In mundane terms, it marks a "leap" in time, when the calendar is adjusted to make up for extra seconds accumulated over the preceding three years due to the rotation of the earth. A day of temporal tune up!

But this day holds another secret—it contains one of those truly rare moments of delightful transience and light uncertainty that only exist on the razor edge of things, along a buzzing plane of quantum probability...

A day of unlocked potential.

Will you or won't you? Should you or shouldn't you?

Use this day to do something daring, extraordinary and unlike yourself. Take a chance and shape a different pattern in your personal cloud of probability!

Charleston

Why did DB and I choose to visit Charleston, well that is where we went on our honeymoon.  We thought it would be fun to go back, stay at the same hotel and explore the parts of the city we missed the first go around.  We left bright and early Thursday morning... okay, we left late and arrived later than we had planned, but in time for the free wine and cheese!

On the way to Charleston we stopped in Columbia and ate at Pawleys Front Porch the place had been featured on Diners, Drive Ins, & Dives.  (This is one of DB's favorite shows.) Pawleys specializes in hamburgers that are named after places in South Carolina, it was quite good.  Of course, that could have had something to do with the fact by the time we arrived it was 2:00 pm and we were starved.

The place we stayed at is called the Harbourview Inn, it is the only inn in Charleston that you can see the harbor.  We splurged and stayed in a room with a view and balcony.  There was a storm blowing in our first night so after grabbing a glass of free wine, we headed to the terrace to watch the sunset and enjoy the view.

Charleston is known as the Holy City due to the number of churches and its belief in religious tolerance.

Rained Out

So much for the great backyard bird count... the overall rain, dampness, and all round dreariness, prevented me from sitting outside watching the birds.  For some reason they are still claiming that our part of Georgia is in a drought, our rain gauge currently reads 18.74 inches and that is since January 1st!

I think the dreariness is effecting Doodle's and my happiness.  We just do not have energy to get much accomplished right now.  I bought a bunch of flower bulbs that need to be planted but we just cannot get our act together to get them in the ground.  I did start planning what we are going to plant in the garden this year and the list is getting a bit out of control.  I think I have Spring fever but the weather is not conducive to being outside.

I am ready for the flowers to bloom, the grass to green up, and sitting outside with a fire...

Incompetence

Have you ever had something on your mind where you cannot sleep?  Hence the reason I am up with a cup of coffee at 5:30 am on a Saturday, when I do not have to study and am typing away.  Incompetent people drive me crazy, is it too much to ask that someone think before they act?  I suppose in this day and age, it is.

Everyone seems to believe they are entitled.  Where did this attitude come from and why?  Does it stem from being raised in a society where everyone gets a trophy just for participating?  When I played sports, if you lost, you did not get a trophy, everyone was in fact NOT winners.

All I am asking is for people do their job to the best of their ability.  If their ability is not up to the job, then a work around should be found.  But what do you do if a person acts as if their job is beneath them.  They do exactly what they are suppose to, but with contempt and inaccuracies that then cause someone else (me) to look like I am not doing my job?

Weekend Idea

This week has flown by, thank goodness, as last week dragged on forever.  On Saturday, Doodle and I will be participating in the Great Backyard Bird Count which asks everyone to count the number and type of birds they see in their backyard.  According to the website, "the Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds".

I had never heard of this event until I received an Audubon calendar this year and the event is listed.  I am quite excited to count the birds that visit our feeders each day and hope I get a glimpse of the woodpeckers that live in the woods.  There are a couple different ways of counting the birds depending on if you are walking or stationary and there is even a photo contest!

I think this would be a great weekend adventure for everyone, especially getting kids interested in nature. So get out there and count people!

Beach Boys

Beach Boys 2012
You know you are getting older when the act you most identify with during the Grammys is the Beach Boys. When they were announcing the song, album, and artist of the year, I was sitting there wondering who are these people?  Am I that out of the loop of popular culture that I do not even know the artists names?

Apparently, the answer is a resounding YES!

World Press Photo 2012

2012, World Press Photo of the Year, Samuel Aranda
Did you know they give awards each year for World Press Photos?
Fantastic, moving photos inspire me to pick-up my camera and just keep trying to improve.
I know I will never take photos like these; I am not a photojournalist that travels to the far reaches of the world and in many instances place themselves in danger to tell a story.  The photos serve as a reminder that we live in an interconnected world and that all life is precious.

Fat Container

This morning the dress I wore called for a fat container.  You know the tortuous devices that women wear to hide the fat rolls around their middle and thighs.  Doodle thought that is was the funniest comment, me calling it a fat container, because it contains the fat and actually makes me sit up straighter.

Am I the only one that wears these?  I do suppose I am the only one that does not refer to them as shapewear... let's call them what they are people... FAT CONTAINERS!

Bananas and Chicken Thighs and the Dump

What a game last night!  While I am not a fan of either the Giants or the Patriots, I thought the game was well played and evenly matched.  I did have a $20.00 bet on the Giants, so I am quite happy they won.  Doodle and I missed almost the entire first half working on our latest cooking adventure featuring chicken thighs.  Thank goodness Doodle was willing to help or I would still be in the kitchen I am afraid. We also made banana pudding from SCRATCH!  Do you think I took pictures of anything we cooked... hell no!

The most exciting thing we did this weekend was visit our local dump. Doesn't everyone aspire to spend their Saturdays at the dump?  I know it was the highlight of our weekend.

I really have nothing to blog about, such is my life, the dump, banana pudding, and chicken thighs.  Happy Monday everyone!

Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.
