The Marriage Dilemma

Doodle and I were talking earlier this week about balancing the needs, wants, and dreams of yourself with that of your partner.  I called it the "marriage dilemma".  By dilemma, I mean that my dreams are not remotely close to Doodle's dreams.  The dilemma is at any moment in the day, whose needs, wants, and dreams take precedence over the other persons. How do you balance the differences of each other so that both of you are feeling important and fulfilled.

Those relationships that succeed have found that balance between two people.  Relationships are about give and take, recognizing that the other person's needs, wants, and dreams while different than yours, are no less important.  There are days that Doodle and I struggle with this and there are days where it is easy sailing.  I think this is normal and healthy.  I believe one of the reasons that we are happily married, is that for the most part we have found the balance of compromise.

Gibbs Gardens

This morning Doodle and I visited Gibbs Gardens.  It is one of the nations largest residential estate gardens and to say it is beautiful does not do it justice.  The garden is the masterpiece of owner Mr. Gibbs and he has spent years designing the 220 acres before opening it to the public this spring.  Doodle and I spent hours wandering through the gardens; enjoying the waterfalls, ponds, ferns, and listening to the birds and frogs.  The pictures below do not do the place justice... you just need to see it for yourself!

Friday Fragments Summer Edition

Mommy's Idea
This should really be called Saturday Segments but as I meant to post last night under Friday Fragments hosted by the venerable Mrs. 4444, I am once again a day late and a dollar short.  A big thank you to Mrs. 4444 and all the participants, that make this weekly journey so interesting.

* Work has been crazy!  Our fiscal year ends on June 30th and I think everyone just realized they have one week left to spend down their budgets.  We are swamped!

* We need rain desperately.  According to the weatherman we are 4 inches short so far and I can tell you our grass is brown, dying, and definitely in need of rain.

* Attended a Scentsy party last night.  I bought a couple of items so will be following up with a review once the products arrive.  The best part of the party was the names of the wax, such as "quiver" and "best dressed man"...both of which smelled horrible to me.

* Thanks to everyone on the blogs, I watched the first two episodes of Bunheads and love it!  It has been added to the recording list.

* Falling Skies is back, (thank goodness) I have missed you so and the premier episode was fantastic.  If this is not one of your regular shows and you enjoy Sci Fi, you are missing out!

* Happy weekend everyone!

Nothing, Nothing On

You know summer has arrived as there is nothing on TV!  How do I know this? I was off yesterday and terribly disappointed in the choices available.  Every channel I turned to had a realty show!

We have over 300 hundred channels and it seems that 99% of them are carrying shows that would be classified as realty TV.  When did this phenomenon happen?  Back in the 80's the only reality show that I can remember was MTV's "The Real World".

Today the choices range from "American Pickers" to "The Real Housewives of..." to "Call of the Wildman" to "American Idol".  Am I the only person that finds these shows less than entertaining?  Why would you spend your waking hours watching a strangers life?  Do people not realize these people are acting and badly at that?  Have we become so bored with our own lives that we live vicariously through someone we do not know?

On top of the reality shows, there is a whole swarm of websites dedicated to discussing the shows and providing updates.

PLEASE FALL HURRY AND ARRIVE!

Monday Musings

I have come to the conclusions that weekends are too short.  Not because everyone should be entitled to a three or four day weekend. (Although that would be nice) But because, society as a whole work too many hours and do not spend enough quality time away from the office.  Why is is necessary that we put in a minimum of eight hours and feel bad when we leave the office to head home?  Add to that smart phones that now allow you to be connected 24 hours a day.  How did our society come to this?  Can this be sustained? Should this be sustained?

Friday Fragments

I continue to be remiss about blogging and continually stating that I am tired is getting tiring!  Working full-time is totally overrated!  So, for today, I am joining up with Mrs. 4444 and Half-Past Kissin' Time for Friday Fragments.  A big thank you to all who participate, especially Mrs. 4444 for hosting.
Mommy's Idea

Shall we begin:

*This week has been long and I am tired.  I truly believe if they allowed us to nap in the afternoon, I would be much more productive.  Don't you agree?  Please say you do!

*Garden update: harvested three okras that DB has already eaten raw (YUCK)!  Harvested several tomatoes and had several that rotted on the vine.  We have baby brussel sprouts, they are cute! We noticed one pepper and the pumpkin vines continue to grow.  I desperately have to weed this weekend, they are taking over again.

*DB had a good hearty laugh at me last night.  I have to bring the bird feeders in or the racoons come by and eat everything.  Last night, I told DB that I had to wait until dark to bring the feeders in as they get a lot of traffic when it gets cooler.  For some reason me saying the feeders get traffic, struck his funny bone and he laughed and laughed.

*You know summer has arrived when there is absolutely nothing on TV but reruns and reality shows!

*Strange occurrence at work this week.  There is a gentleman that works in our office and he built an add-on for his desk, as seen below.

As you can see, this has elevated the desk top a good 18 inches or so... according to the owner of said desk, "you burn more calories by standing all day".  What I have noticed, is he chats more in other peoples offices while sitting down!  Sort of defeats the whole purpose I say.

*Happy Friday everyone!

What is Flag Day?

I was speaking with a co-worker and mentioned that today is Flag Day.  That got me thinking, what exactly is flag day?  Can you display any flag you choose?  Do you have to display only the American flag?  This is quite depressing that I cannot fully explain flag day.  I suppose it is a bonus that I am not a home schooling parent, this would be a major fail!

According to usflag.org, "The Fourth of July was traditionally celebrated as America's birthday, but the idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for the pupils in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School, District 6, to observe June 14 (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes) as 'Flag Birthday'. In numerous magazines and newspaper articles and public addresses over the following years, Cigrand continued to enthusiastically advocate the observance of June 14 as 'Flag Birthday', or 'Flag Day'."

In my opinion, it is weird that we have a day dedicated to the flag... So, go forth and celebrate?!

Roxanne

I loved you since I knew you...

Meet the newest family member at the barn... Roxanne.   Is she not the cutest baby ever?  Yes, you are not seeing things, we have a baby raccoon at the barn.  Some stupid person killed her mother and that is how she ended up at the barn.  She has had her shots and she is now big enough to be eating baby food and not just drinking out of a bottle.  She has doubled in size in the past couple of weeks and is a hoot, she waddles like a raccoon and loves to chase you around.  If you scratch her back, she makes the cutest noise, like it tickles. I am in love!

Pooped Out

Exhausted
Run Ragged
Over Worked
Wore Down

All of these words together do not begin to describe how tired I am.  This was my first week back at full-time work in almost a year and it has whipped my butt!  I do not know how everyone manages working 40+ hours a week.  All I want to do when I get home is nap.  I must have been a cat in another life, napping in the sun is the best idea I have all day.  I have a whole new appreciation for Doodle working all those hours, year after year.  I am ready for retirement and a life of fun in the sun.  Happy Friday everyone, get that nap in!

Middle Age

What constitutes middle age?  Is it when you hit forty, fifty, sixty?  According to my mom, last weekend, Doodle and I officially entered middle age...

Friday - attended a 50th birthday party
Sunday - high school graduation party
Monday - funeral visitation

You know, when I look around at the people we were with all weekend, mom was right... we are middle age!  I am not sure how I feel about being middle age.  I do not want young people to say "there goes an old person" but I have to admit, I would be happy coming home each night and taking a nap!  Maybe I am just old!
